Accreditation at Rice

Accreditation

Accreditation seeks to ensure constituents and the public that the quality and integrity of higher educational institutions meet acceptable levels of quality. These outcomes are achieved through rigorous internal and external peer review processes during which the institution is evaluated against a common set of standards. The accreditation granted encompasses the entire institution including reported branch campuses, other instructional sites, online programs, and distance learning modalities.

Rice University is accredited with the following agencies:

SACSCOC

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) is a U.S. Department of Education recognized institutional accreditor and is the accreditor of Rice University. To maintain institutional accreditation with SACSCOC, Rice University participates in an interim review every five years and a comprehensive reaffirmation every ten years. Rice also submits smaller reports to SACSCOC on an as-needed basis, to fulfill Substantive Change and other reporting requirements.

Rice University is accredited by SACSCOC to award baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degrees. Degree-granting institutions also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels.
